Where is architecture heading, between technological temptation and environmental constraints, ‘star system’ and ethical requirements?
Currently, in the early 21st century, the architectural discipline is at a technical, ideological and professional turning point. On the one hand, techniques continue to advance, and architecture is impacted by the development of digital technology or the most recent advances in materials. On the other hand, the search for fairer and more sustainable development encourages us to question the validity of certain innovations. The same uncertainty prevails from an ideological and professional standpoint. Over the past twenty years, architecture has been driven by the production of globalised ‘star architects’. However, their prestige is beginning to wane as a result of political and social concerns that they have not been able to address. Where is architecture heading? The conference will address this set of questions on which the future of the discipline depends.
